Course Description

CONA is a globally recognized five-day certification course on optical networking and  design. It is a mix of theory, discussion and exercises leading to execution of a design project. You will work in small teams to select and design a system based on a set of defined conditions. Each team presents their approach and design to the instructor and class. The course culminates with a final exam.

At the end of the course, you will understand optical network theory, how to interpret link test data, system components, and the process of designing a 10Gb/s xWDM network. Those who pass the exam and course project achieve CONA (Certified Optical Network Associate) certification.

This course is beneficial to those who wish to develop skills in optical network design and in understanding how to interpret fiber network test results. Current or aspiring design engineers and managers supporting private, public or government networks will find this course helpful. It is also valuable for those who manage contractors that provide those services. Typical clients include telecom, multiple service operators (MSO’s), data center interconnect service providers, large private network owners, engineering and test contractors, utilities, government and military agencies.

Required prep: A PC laptop with Windows 8 or above is required with capability to read USB memory devices.

Recommended prep: A basic understanding of fiber networks through a fiber network fundamentals course or online reading is helpful but not required.
