Course Description
This class is for those experiencing grief or anxiety due to the conditions of the world. In the face of despair, giving up, overwhelm, depression or tuning out, we can often find grieving to be a source of strength that provides courage and heart to move forwards. We will consider how we can best show up in these times and be useful to our community. This class is also appropriate for those with a challenging illness. Reverend Bodhi Be is an ordained interfaith minister. He is the executive director of Doorway Into Light, a nonprofit organization on Maui, which provides conscious and compassionate care for the dying, their families and the grieving, and has been offering community presentations and trainings, since 2006, in the fields of awakened living and dying.
Doorway Into Light operates Hawaii’s only nonprofit funeral home; a certified green funeral home, and facilitates Hawaii’s only ocean body burials. As well, it operates an educational resource center and store on Maui, The Death Store. Bodhi has taught hundreds of doctors, nurses, hospice staff, social workers, ministers, chaplains, therapists and lay people the spiritual, psychological, emotional and logistical care of the dying and the care of the dead.
Bodhi is a funeral director, death doula, end-of-life and bereavement counselor and educator, hospice volunteer, home funeral guide, a teacher and trainer of death doulas, a speaker and workshop leader and a ceremonial guide. Bodhi has facilitated grief groups in a public high school.
He hosts a weekly radio show, ‘Death Tracks’ at AKAKU, which streams online. He writes a column called “Ask the Death Professor” for a local Maui magazine.
He is a notary public, coffin maker, Reiki practitioner and, together with his wife, children and grandchildren, an off-the-grid organic homesteader on Maui.
Bodhi and his wife Leilah lead spiritual retreats in Hawaii and around the world.
