Course Description

Fundamentals of Management Series: 2-Day Training 

Day 1: The Role of the Supervisor 

  • This course will focus on the nature of supervision, transition from worker to supervisor, and the basic skills of supervision.

Day 2: Problem Solving & Delegating 

  • This course will focus on understanding the problem solving and decision-making process. It will also discuss the steps in the delegation process and the use of delegation to save time and to train and motivate subordinates.

Learner Outcomes

Day 1: The Role of the Supervisor

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to understand what it takes to become an effective supervisor. 

  1. Define the responsibilities of supervisors 
  2. Describe the management process 
  3. Explain the rewards and challenges of supervisors 
  4. Present guidelines for supervising former co-workers 
  5. Explain the concept of delegating and making work assignments. 
  6. List the steps to set standards and expectations 
  7. Discuss how to measure and evaluate performance 
  8. State several ways for giving and asking for feedback 
  9. Describe how to acknowledge improved performance 
  10. Discuss how to prepare reports and keep their boss informed 

Day 2: Problem Solving and & Delegating 

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to list the steps in solving problems and delegating effectively.

  1. State the steps taken in identifying the problem 
  2. List the steps taken in collecting relevant information 
  3. Recount the steps taken in developing alternatives 
  4. State the steps taken in selecting the best alternative
  5. List the steps taken in implementing the decision 
  6. Describe the four types of decision-making styles 
  7. Define delegation 
  8. Explain the steps in the delegation process 
  9. Discuss why some supervisors are reluctant to delegate 
  10. Identify the tasks that can't be delegated 
  11. Present several ideas for improving delegation
