Course Description

Kapi`olani Community College will provide a unique 8-day Intensive Sustainability and COIL Program for the students of Kansai University.  Students on this program will be interacting face to face with KAPCC students the in person portion of the Kansai University/KAPCC Collaboration Online International Learning (COIL) project sponsored by the Japanese government.  Students will also be studying about Sustainable Development Goals during their time in Hawai`i. 

By the end of the program, the students will be able to:

1.  Have a better understanding of Hawaiian History and Culture

2.  Understand Hawai`i's efforts in sustainable development goals

3.  Compare Hawaiian and Japanese concepts of sustainable hospitality

 

Course Outline

Course Content and Activities:

a.  Orientation

b.  Ho`okipa - Hawaiian Culture Workshop

c.  Interaction with KAPCC students (Interaction with JPN131 and JPN201 students)

d.  Site Visits (Ka Papa Lo`i O Kanewai, KAPCC Farmer's Market and Arizona Memorial Pearl Harbor)

e.  Class arranged by Kansai University

f.  Reflection and Presentation

g.  Closing Ceremony
