Course Description

Learn the fundamentals of pharmacy technician skills to assist pharmacists in serving patients. Competencies include receiving, processing, and filling prescriptions and medication orders; determining charges and obtaining reimbursements (including insurance and Medicare payments), maintaining medication and inventory control systems, and participating in the administration and management of the pharmacy practice.

Course Outline

This 8-week course provides an introduction to the role and working environment of the pharmacy technician in outpatient and inpatient settings. The training prepares and assesses student readiness to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (exam fee included in tuition).

Prerequisites

1. Mandatory Orientation required for all participants one week prior to course start date.
2. Proof of a 9th-grade English level or higher. (e.g. high school transcript or college transcript or degree, TABE results, etc.).
3. Drug screen required.
