Course Description: Assistive technology is any item or equipment, product or system that is used to improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Learn how assistive technology differs from medical supports and equipment. Explore the benefits of assistive technology and universal design.
Speaker Bio: Barbara Fischlowitz-Leong is Executive Director of Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawai`i. She is an internationally and nationally recognized advocate for persons with disabilities. She is responsible for drafting Hawaii’s Warranty Act, protecting purchases of assistive technology in the state. She is also a consultant to various state departments and legislators on disability and assistive technology issues.
Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawai`i (ATRC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to link people with technology and empower individuals through its use. It provides access to assistive technology for people with disabilities of all ages, enabling independence and participation in every aspect of community life. Its primary role is as a resource center to meet the need of an individual with disabilities, family members, employers, and educators.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the webinar, participants will learn:
1). Learn what assistive technology is
2). Understand the impact for persons with disabilities
3). How assistive technology gets from development to implementation
