HLTH3052 - Hybrid PALS
Course Description
This is an Hybrid PALS course. HeartCode PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the PALS Course. Students must complete the 6-9 hour online portion successfully. The cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students will take a multiple choice exam and must pass with a minimum score of 84%.
Students must complete the 3-4 hours of required hands-on skills stations successfully to receive the certification and CME. Skills station and student performance will be conducted in the classroom and times as identified or designated for the respective class.
This course is for state of Hawaii licensed EMS providers. Non-state licensed and non-EMS providers will be admitted at the discretion of the course director/instructor

Learner Outcomes
- Perform high-quality Child CPR AED and Infant CPR per AHA BLS recommendations
- Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
- Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
- Apply team dynamics
- Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
- Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
- Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
- Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
- Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
- Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
- Implement post–cardiac arrest management
