Course Description

"Precept to Success" is designed to develop competence and confidence in those assigned as preceptors for students and new hires. Participants will learn how to be an effective preceptor through optimizing learning strategies for adult learners. Teaching, learning, and assessment strategies are included in this course.

Learner Outcomes

  • Describe the responsibilities and competencies of an effective preceptor
  • Apply learning and teaching principles to optimize learning and assessment strategies for adult learners
  • Demonstrate best practices in communication with students, colleagues, and patients
  • Understand and practice the "Five Steps Preceptor Model" to develop active learning between the preceptor and the student
  • Apply sound principles and judgment in the assessment of work performance
  • Increase participant self-awareness through reflective practice
