Course Description

The psychomotor examination evaluates the competence of the EMT candidate in a wide range of emergency care skills. Each candidate that seeks National EMS certification as an Emergency Medical Technician must successfully complete five (5) mandatory skills plus one (1) random skill. Upon successful completion of the psychomotor examination, the EMT candidate will be eligible to take the NREMT cognitive examination.

Learner Outcomes

The student will successfully demonstrate competence in the ability to perform:

  1. An assessment and management of a trauma patient
  2. An assessment and management of a medical patient
  3. The proper use of a BVM (for ventilation) of an adult apneic patient
  4. The proper administration of oxygen by using a Non-Rebreather Mask
  5. The management of a patient in cardiac arrest with the use of an AED

Plus one (1) RANDOM skill which includes:

  1. Bleeding Control/Shock Management
  2. Joint Immobilization
  3. Long Bone Immobilization
