Course Description

Writing is an essential business skill.  Whether it is used in memos, emails, blogs, text messages, promotional materials, or reports, it is a part of your own business profile and can be a key element in your personal success.  Good business writing is closer today to good spoken language than ever before.  Improve your business writing skills by learning to write unpretentiously, using better sentence structure and by organizing your writing to express your goals more clearly and concisely.  Learn to recognize common grammatical errors which distract from your message and influence your credibility.

Learner Outcomes

1. Be able to identify your specific goals in what you wish to write.
2. Be able to write in a clear and concise manner.
3. Develop the good practice of checking written work (proofreading) before pressing the "send" button.
4. Learn to utilize list making and outlining strategies in order to organize writing.
5. Gain a better understanding of sentence and paragraph structure.
6. Recognize common grammatical mistakes.
7. Utilize resources for spelling and grammar.
8. Write courteous yet direct memos.
9. Learn to better recognize the appropriate tone in your writing.
