Course DescriptionThe Captains Course: Masters Upgrade (lecture) meets the United States Coast Guard (USCG) professional knowledge and testing requirements for applying for a Master 25/50/100 ton (Captain's) license. The course utilizes the USCG- approved Mariner's Learning System in a blended classroom and digital format. Course includes topics of seamanship, navigation, maritime law and includes an introduction to Hawaiian culture, ecology and hospitality as it relates to commercial boating. Requirements: Completion or concurrent enrollment in Captains Course: OUPV (lecture).
Learner Outcomes1. Define, describe and apply all navigational rules from 72 COLREGS.
2. Define and describe navigational theory and apply techniques in maritime scenarios.
3. Define and describe seamanship theory and describe techniques in maritime scenarios.
4. Define, describe and apply U.S. and international maritime law pertaining to the operation of commercial vessels.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of Hawaiian culture, ecology and hospitality as it relates to the maritime industry.
