Course Description

This introductory course covers the key principles of creating quality food-inspired photos on a DSLR camera.  This course is geared towards not only the foodie, but also those that use food pictures to promote their business.

Topics covered include:

  • Familiarization of the various photographic functions of their smartphones
  • Setting up their shot of their food
  • How to maximize existing lighting in their photos
  • Modifying lighting to enhance photos
  • Incorporation of props to into the photos
  • Basic editing from their smartphones

After completing this course, the students will gain more knowledge in utilizing the various functions of their mobile device for food photography.  In addition, they will also be able to better determine how to leverage their food photos on the various commonly used social media platforms.  

Training will be live and in person.  

Course Outline

The purpose of this class is to enable participants to maximize the potential of their DSLR camera and editing features when taking food photographs.  Many of these individuals may be food bloggers and/or connected to the food industry and would want to enhance their photography skills. 

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Comfortably navigate basic settings of their DSLR in relation to taking food photographs
  • Understand lighting and how to manipulate lighting to maximize the effects of their photos
  • Utilize props
  • Become comfortable with various editing software for their smartphones

Prerequisites

All participants will be required to provide/bring their own DSLR camera to the class.  Cameras should be no older than 10 years old and have an interchangeable lends.  

Participants shall also be expected to be already comfortable with using their DSLR they will be using in the class.  There will be no time for the instructor to teach participants how to operate their camera.  Participants should have a working knowledge of their existing camera.
