Course DescriptionAn Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement is required by a licensed Captain to operate a sailing vessel for hire. This course will prepare the licensed Captain for the USCG written exam for the endorsement. Prior knowledge of sailing and experience aboard sailing vessels is also required by the U.S. Coast Guard. Prerequisites: Must hold a USCG OUPV license or above or concurrent enrollment in FIT7045
Learner Outcomes1. Define and describe the types of sailing vessels, physics of sailing, points of sail, and sailing maneuvers.
2. Define and describe the Rules of the Road from 72 COLREGS as it pertains to sailing vessels.
3. Define and describe sailing hulls and shapes, different types of sails, layouts, spars, rigging and terminology used on sailboats.
4. Define and describe safety equipment and procedures, fire prevention and chemistry of fire and survival at sea.
Pre-Requisites: High school diploma or equivalent, min age 19, at least 1 year of boating experience highly recommended. Must hold a USCG OUPV license or above or concurrent enrollment in FIT7045.
