Course DescriptionAn Assistance Towing Endorsement is required by a licensed Captain to conduct commercial towing operations. This course will prepare the licensed Captain for the U.S. Coast Guard approved written exam for the endorsement. This course utilizes the U.S. Coast Guard approved Mariner's Learning System, facilitated in a classroom by an instructor. Prior knowledge of boating, towing operations and experience aboard power vessels is also required by the U.S. Coast Guard. Prerequisites: Must hold a USCG OUPV license or above or concurrent enrollment in FIT7045.
Learner Outcomes1. Define and describe risk management and situational awareness elements as it relates to towing safety.
2. Define and describe the differences between static, dynamic forces, the combination of forces and shock loading when towing.
3. Define and describe equipment on vessels for towing behind and alongside for towing operations.
4. Define and describe procedures for effective, efficient and safe towing operations in various conditions.
Pre-requisites: High school diploma or equivalent, min age 19, at least 1 year of boating experience highly recommended. Must hold a USCG OUPV license or above or concurrent enrollment in FIT7045.
