Course DescriptionA Marine Radio Operator's Permit is required by a licensed Captain or crew member of a vessel that is over 300 gross tons, or if the vessel carries more than 6 passengers for hire in the open sea. This course will prepare students for the required exam and application to the FCC. Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years old and proficient English speaker.
Learner Outcomes1. Define and describe FCC licensing, legal requirements, equipment, watch keeping, log keeping for stations and operators.
2. Define and describe radio and electronics fundamentals as it pertains to shipboard communications.
3. Define and describe standard bridge to bridge communications, operating procedures, VHF-FM, MF-HF equipment, controls.
4. Define and describe distress, urgency, safety, GDMSS and NAVTEX communication procedures.
5. Define and describe radio equipment tests, faults, antennas and power sources.
Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years old and proficient English speaker.
